This fact explains, why this monograph is written as the rst book devoted to this subject. A quarter of a centu…ry ago the underdevelopment of this subject was obvious. Trial and error dominated. In fact, other apposite subjects as polymer melt rheology or heat transfer, had reached high levels. A great number of books has been devoted to them. Mold lling of amorphous polymers and the solidi cation of these polymers by vitri cation can nowadays be simulated numerically with a high degree of accuracy. In the solidi ed sample even residual stresses and corresponding birefringence effects can accurately be 1 calculated . However, semicrystalline polymers, which form the majority of industrial po- mers, have been excluded from these considerations for good reasons. In fact, great uncertainties existed about the formation of quality determining crystalline str- tures. In particular, polyole ns suffered from this shortcoming. In 1983 this fact instigated the polymer research group at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz to start with pertinent activities. The urgency of this kind of studies becomes evident, if advantages and hitches of these polymers are considered. 1. Versatility of processing: Injection molding into a great variety of shapes and sizes, from thin walled beakers to garden chairs, not to forget pipe and pro le extrusion, cable coating, ber spinning, lm blowing. 2. Product qualities: Ductility, low density, good electric insulation, corrosion resistance, surface quality. 240 pp. Englisch.

Endoscopic transnasal approaches have also been recently used in some… neurosurgical centres to reach pre- and retrosellar areas and targets localized in the basal cisterns. One major factor is the localization of the carotid artery between the siphon and aperture externa of the carotid canal at the base of the petrous bone. The following areas are especially critical: 1. the anterior siphon area 2.the area between the bottom of the sphenoid sinus and the base of Processus pte- goideus 3. the proximity of the carotid canal to the Tuba Eustachii, the labyrinth, Bulbus su- rior of the internal jugular vein and the facial nerve. Some segments of the course of the carotid artery are well known but they have rarely been surgical target areas using transnasal approaches to date. This has changed since the introduction of modern imaging techniques, especially neuronavigation. It has become possible to identify and localize structures of the skull and extra- and intracranial structures in any desired plane. 212 pp. Englisch.

These phenomenological models are particularly important and useful for solutions of very concrete initial boundary value problems. Our interests are focused mainly on detailed descriptions of material behavior that depend not only on simple stress-strain relationships but also includes the strong influence of loading type, which introduces temperature, strain rate dependence, fracture, etc. Understanding these physics phenomena is of fundamental importance for successful and responsible computations. In particular, using the popular commercial programs requires deep understanding of constitutive formulations and their restrictions. These lectures are addressed to industrial users who are responsible for making crucial decisions in design, as well as, to young scientists who work on new models that describe the behavior of materials which also account the new influences and reflect the complexity of the material behavior. At the end, let me express my gratitude to the lecturers of the CISM course No. 328 on 'Advances in Constitutive Relations Applied in Computer Codes', held in Udine in July 2007, who finally prepared the included materials. Unfortunately, during the preparation and collecting papers for this book, our friend and colleague Prof. Janusz R. Klepaczko passed away. Two prominent members of the International Society for Brain Edema: Dr. Igor Klatzo and Dr. Julien Hoff have passed a…way after the last 2005 Symposium in Ann Arbor, USA. Dr. Igor Klatzo was actually the founder of the Society, and the Advisory Board decided to commemorate Dr. Igor Klatzo by introducing a lecture named after him to be given at the Symposium. Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Reulen has been honored to give the frst Igor Klatzo lecture entitled 'Bulk Flow and Diffusion revisited, and Clinical Applications'. This volume contains 65 out of the 104 papers presented at the Symposium as lectures or posters. The topics of the Symposium were similar to those discussed at the previous ones. Many discussions focused on clinical work especially diagnosis, subarachnoid hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, and traumatic brain injury.
