This monograph deals with the analysis of a number of for…mal problems involving this kind of operators (with particular reference to complementarity problems and variational inequalities), and their applications to distributive problems and equilibrium models. Thus the purpose of this work is to provide a set of new results on the solvability of those problems, and a number of economic applications that will illustrate the interest of these results in economics. It is worth stressing from the very begining that our analysis concentrates on the existence (and in some cases optimality) of solutions. That is what is meant here by solvability (in particular, nothing will be said with respect to the uniqueness, stability, sensitivity analysis or computation of solutions). The results on the solvability of operator problems presented here, were actually arrived at as a way of solving specific economic models. Yet we are going to relate this case by somehow reversing the way it happened, that is, starting with the formal results and then presenting a number of economic models which appear as applications of VIII these formal results. The rationale for this approach is twofold. First, it provides a neat track via which to go through the whole work. Then, because I would like to emphasize the interest of complementarity and variational inequalities problems in economic modelling. 184 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -This manual describes a PASCAL extension for scientific computation with the short title PASCAL-XSC (PASCAL eXtension for Scientific Computation). The language is the result of a long term effort of members of the Institute for Applied… Mathematics of Karlsruhe University and several associated scientists. PASCAL XSC is intended to make the computer more powerful arithmetically than usual. It makes the computer look like a vector processor to the programmer by providing the vector/matrix operations in a natural form with array data types and the usual operator symbols. Programming of algorithms is thus brought considerably closer to the usual mathematical notation. As an additional feature in PASCAL-XSC, all predefined operators for real and complex numbers and intervals, vectors, matrices, and so on, deliver an answer that differs from the exact result by at most one rounding. Numerical mathematics has devised algorithms that deliver highly accurate and automatically verified results by applying mathematical fixed point theorems. That is, these computations carry their own accuracy control. However, their imple mentation requires arithmetic and programming tools that have not been available previously. The development of PASCAL-XSC has been aimed at providing these tools within the PASCAL setting. Work on the subject began during the 1960's with the development of a general theory of computer arithmetic. Noninvasive methods include supine and upright views of the abdomen (sometimes fluoroscopy and decubitus films); posteroanterior (PA) vi…ews of the chest; contrast studies of the alimentary tract; ultrasonogra phy (US), scintigraphy, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Biopsy under fluoroscopic control and angiography are inva sive techniques. Most of the errors described in this book are related to faulty interpretation; others are due to improper technique. For example, a patient with acute abdominal pain secondary to a perforated hollow viscus may be studied only by supine and upright views of the abdomen that do not include the subdi aphragmatic regions. A complementary PA view of the chest or a left lateral decubitus film would, however, detect free air in the pentoneal cavity that the incomplete two-film study might have missed. Errors of techmque are due to under- or overexposure, long exammation times or an uncooperative patient (both of which can induce motion artIfacts), improper processing, and failure to perform the proper standard noninvasive or mvaSlVe modalitIes for examining the hollow viscus and the solid organs of the alimentary tract. In order to visualize the diaphragm and the supra- and mfradiaphragmatIc spaces, frontal and lateral chest roentgenograms complement the standard views of the abdomen. Das Ziel der Vorle sung - und damit auch des Buches - ist, die Verfahren, Methoden und. Prinzipien der Kanalcodierung zu erlii.utem. Dabei kann auf Beweise an manchen Stelle- selbstverstii.ndlich nicht iiberall - verzichtet werden, um die fiir die Anwendung wichtigen Stellen ausfiihrlicher zu erortem. Die Kapitel iiber verallgemeinerte Codeverkettung und iiber codierte Modulation sind neu hinzugekommen. Sie beruhen auf den Arbeiten, die ich 1987/88 durch ein Stipendium der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft bei Prof. T.Ericson an der Universitii.t Linkoping in Schweden durchffihren konnte. Obwohl diese Themen bisher nicht oder nur unvollstii.ndig im Vorlesungsmanuskript behandelt wurden, war der Inhalt schon wegen der aktuellen Thematik Teil der Vorlesung. In beiden Kapiteln wird versucht, sowohl die Grundlagen der Themen herauszuarbeiten als auch die Aufarbeitung fiir die Anwendung bereitzustellen. Die Ubungsaufgaben mit LOsungen sind nun an den entsprechenden Stellen inte griert und sollen die Moglichkeit bieten, den behandelten Stoff zu vertiefen. An die ser Stelle mochte ich erwii.hnen, daB ich den GroBteil der Ubungsaufgaben zusammen mit meinem damaligen Kollegen Dr. K.Huber als wissenschaftlicher Angestellter am Institut von Prof. B.Dorsch an der TH Darmstadt erarbeitet habe. 282 pp. Deutsch.
