Condizione: new. (Paperback, 2010). (1997) 2010 2nd edition reprint. 8vo paperback (140 x 209mm). Ppviii,312. Colour photographs throughout, b/w illustrations, bibliography. Fine new copy. Think like a trout - trout psychology for anglers. This is a new, updated edition of this useful book which was originally entitled Reading the Water. This new edition has been completely revised and boasts hundreds of explanatory photographs showing real fishing situations, with trout lies marked in. Dave Hughes' real subject is trout psychology with regard to the life they lead and the environment they live in. The author "covers every water type - riffles, runs, pools, flats, pocket water, bank water - to pinpoint how to dissect each type to find trout. You'll learn how trout seek shelter from [the] current, protection from predators, the right temperatures and oxygen levels, and food supplies. Understanding what the water can teach will help you know where and how to look to find and catch trout on any creek, stream, and river." All the information in this book is directly applicable to the British Isles, and pretty well all the stretches of water presented for discussion might just as well be on this side of the Atlantic. A good read with a lot of material from Hughes' own experiences. A useful book of great interest to any river aficionado. Chapters include:- Needs of trout; Structure of a stream; Trout foods; Trout lies; Reading riffles; Finding trout in runs; Anatomy of a pool; The challenge of fishing flats; Probing pocket water; Trout lies along the banks; Special techniques for mountain creeks; Classic freestone trout streams; Tackle and tactics for large freestone rivers; Meadow streams and spring creeks; Tailwater trout. .

Another good book from Ed Engle, this time giving advice for catching trout on those days when they just don't want to play along. "What do you do when your usual tactics don't work, when your dependable flies let you down, when the water's acting funny? What do you do when your best attempts to match the hatch and make drag-free-drift presentations fail? Ed Engle has been a staple of Rocky Mountain West fishing for many years and has found the best solutions to challenges that vex fly anglers everywhere. He shares what he has learned in straightforward, no-nonsense lessons for finding and taking even the toughest trout. From techniques to try when the river is dirty to tips on using familiar fly patterns in unusual ways, Engle breaks down the unique strategies he has developed over the years. He may add a lift to the end of a dead drift to induce a strike. He may fish spent spinners as attractors. He may try a new take on a classic technique like the Fothergill nymphing technique and Leisenring Lift or experiment with something more cutting-edge like Czech nymphing. Engle shows how he has let go of preconceived notions to allow the trout and the river to inform his fishing. And he shares these simple, easy-to-pick-up lessons so you can turn an otherwise uneventful day on the water into a success." Chapters include:- Nymphing; Attractor flies; Tight-line tactics; Meadow streams; Catching difficult trout; High-water strategies; Small-stream finesse; Oddities. .

(Hardcover, 2010 ). (2010) later reprint. 4to (222 x 285mm). Ppx,213,ill. Colour plates of flies, colour photographs & paintings throughout. Blue-green boards, spine titled in gilt. Very slightly shaken, unobtrusively bumped. Good-plus in slightly used dust-wrapper. "Fishing tactics and fly designs for the toughest trout". Rene Harrop shares many years' experience of fishing and fly-tying. Chapters include; learning from the water; the art of deception; a working fly box; fishing the clock; into the mesh; a long leader; fishing on the edge; selective nymphing; the value of versatility - eight flies for Yellowstone Country; alesson in humility; the formula for success; men of the water; emergence; midging from top to bottom; caddis system; hoppers - large and small; beetles - plan B; aquatic wasps - a mystery; flavs - the little drakes of summer; Callibaetis - the speckled mayfly of quiet water; tricos - a lesson in thinking small; pale morning duns; Baetis - last chance. Soundly reasoned good advice, with many excellent, explanatory pictures. "Attention to detail is what the best of fishing is about, and Rene Harrop gives us detail by the lorry load. For that reason alone this is not a bookthat requires cover-to-cover reading. Any chapter will suffice to sate the most needy of appetites, such is the intensity of information. It matters not that this is a water specific work - the Henry's Fork, the approach is such that situations are relative, and it could be your river or stream. Okay, so some of the flies described do not directly relate to our fishing in this country, but the approach cannot be faulted, in fact, it is faultless. Tactics can be related, and in this Rene Harrop is a supreme practitioner. I cannot recommend this book more highly". (Terry Griffiths in Flydresser). .

(Hardcover, 2010 ). 2010 1st edition. Folio (222 x 286mm). Ppx,210. Colour photographs of flies, b/w illustrations. Black boards, spine titled in gilt. DVD laid in (2 hours duration). Very good in used dust-wrapper. Michael Radencich, salmon fly tyer extraordinaire, presents twenty strategically chosen patterns. Having progressed through all twenty, the keen student will have learned all the elements of the traditional salmon fly and will be quite capable of tying anything in the genre. Each chapter successively presents patterns that are more and more complex.Chapter one introduces very simple Spey and Dee styles, strip wing flies with only a few elements per fly. The next chapters cover simple upright wing flies, full feather wing flies and married wing styles. A chapter focuses on flies with multiple body divisions and another is devoted to Traherne's exquisite (and challenging) Victorian classics. Radencich gives full details on substituting modern materials for those which have become expensive or unobtainable in recent times. The book ends up with modern patterns that are in turn beautiful and difficult to tie. Once you've mastered these 20, you'll be able to tie any classic salmon pattern. A DVD is included, further explaining some of the points in the book. .

Very good in slightly used dust-wrapper. This is a useful intermediate fly-tying manual which aims to build on the skills taught in Charlie Craven's first book, Charlie Craven's Basic Fly Tying. Charlie Craven's Fly box is built around seventeen of the author's own patterns which demonstrate in "the meticulous .detail that Craven is known for .topics such as dubbing loops, brushing techniques, tying 'messy' flies neatly, techniques with epoxy, foam, rubber legs, and much more. but the greatest value of this book is that Craven takes the readers on a tour of his creative process, walking them through the different versions, incarnations, and failures associated with his patterns, which are some of the most popular in the United States for waters ranging from small streams to saltwater flats." .
