Joseph Blundell, sentenced to death for attacking a gamekeeper while poaching near Maidstone in Kent, was transported for life to the NSW Colony in 1826. His grandfather Thomas of Chelsfield in England, who should have rightfully become extremely wealthy as the recipient of the Blundell family fortune, was denied his inheritance by the Court. Two generations later, Joseph had descended from a proud and privileged birthright to penury and illiteracy. Mercy Balcombe of New Romney married Robert Blanch in 1831 and they with other family members were given assisted passage to the Colony in 1838 to work for the Brindley family near Newcastle. In 1842, Mercy adopted the Susan Osborne alias, absconded from her husband's protection, leaving four children behind and fled to the far reaches of the Colony with Joseph Blundell by whom she had had a child. They came to the Limestone Plains settling at what is now Canberra the national capital. A chronicle of the convict Joseph Blundell and his consort Susan Osborne Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability.

If you're a couple of European white swans, it's hard work surviving in the wild - finding food, bringing up families, getting through freezing weather and facing natural dangers. It helps a lot though if you have managed to find a good safe stretch of water to live in, like the moat around the city of Ypres in Belgium. But when the humans suddenly start fighting a war with bombs and guns right where your home is, life gets a lot more difficult. The two swans had to choose: leave their home, or stay and face the dangers of the guns that were destroying everything around them. They took the brave course and carried on with their natural lives under fire. Their courage and beauty became an inspiration to the soldiers fighting the war.Could something like that really happen? Perhaps it did. If you're a couple of European white swans, it's hard work surviving in the wild, but when the humans suddenly start fighting a war with bombs and big guns right where your home is, life gets a lot more difficult. The swans had to choose: leave their home, or stay and face the dangers of the guns that were destroying everything around them. Gary graduated from the Royal Military College Duntroon and his service as a peacemaker has exposed him to considerable danger and personal trauma. Dramatic experiences in the Iran-Iraq war saw him develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Gary chronicles his own struggle and management of this illness, and his parallel ministry to other veterans similarly affected. Despite being a distinguished graduate of senior military staff colleges and with a wealth of experience as an Infantry Officer, Gary gave up his promising military career to train and be ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church. In his new vocation, Gary served as Chaplain in both the Australian Army and Federal Police, with multiple deployments to Timor-Leste, The Solomon Islands, Bougainville and the Asian Tsunami of 2004. In 1993, 4 million Somalis were starving and 26 nations sent their young men and women to make sure that food reached those who needed it.On the Thursday before Anzac Day the Australian Army asked Bob Breen to fly to Somalia the following Tuesday to conduct research for a book on the Australian participation in the American-led peacekeeping operation in that country. The following day he re-enlisted in the army and four days later he arrived in Mogadishu. He patrolled with the diggers down Baidoa's alleyways by night and day, rode with them on food convoys into the bandit-infested countryside, and listened to their stories. This book is the result. It is a very personal account of the experiences of the Australian men and women who served in Somalia and of those who supported them back at home in Australia. It is also an objective analysis of the Australian operation-the decisions, factors and events that led to its successes and to its frustrations and failures. The lessons learned from that operation, as described in this book, will be invaluable to those who are involved with peacekeeping operations in the future. An account of the Australian Force in Somalia in 1993. It includes an objective analysis of the Australian operation, the decisions, factors and events that led to its su-ccesses and to its frustrations and failures.
