Beginning as a child prodigy, he entered the Royal Academy Schools aged 11, and along with Holman Hunt and Rossetti was a founding member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Time spent studying in Russia and Paris developed what would embody Chagall's style for his entire career, drawing inspiration from his Jewish identity, folklore, nostalgia and religion.
