This method is useful for dealing with both chronic problems that pop up in one s own biography as well as for the little snags of everyday life. They are applicable when doing self-counseling as well as in a classical therapeutic setting. Aphoristic counseling confronts the client with a statement concerning a particular matter at hand and prompts the client to take the (chance) saying completely seriously and to accept it as a solution.In aphoristic counseling the therapist challenges clients and offers them space to embrace new and alternative ways of looking at things. This therapeutic form can be employed as a short-term therapy or as part of longer-term counseling. It collects examples from nearly all world regions from early modern times to the middle of the twentieth century.The contributions discuss the concept of contact zones', defining them both as spaces where people of different backgrounds actually met and as 'imagined contact zones' between European Christians and those living abroad who insisted on forming one community and thus exchanged ideas, and as 'personalised contact zones' in individuals who transcended boundaries and integrated different backgrounds and attitudes. In each case people, concepts and attitudes changed in the encounter. Practices were modified and new practices emerged. Values and conceptions were transformed. When individuals embodied the contact, however, they often were expelled from the contact zone, especially when they were not recognised as 'European'. The volume thus also sheds light on the limits of the contact. By focusing on the results of the intercultural encounter, however, it mainly demonstrates the impact of life in a contact zone on those involved.'.

However, pious literature covered these topics again and again, not only before the Reformation, but after it as well. Here, certain denominational differences are clearly visible. Partly, these differ…ences consist in the use of genres: For example, funeral sermons are an often used genre among Lutherans, while they are much rarer in the Reformed tradition. Similar differences can be observed concerning epitaphs. In Roman Catholic areas, funeral sermons and epitaphs are common in the 16th century, too; but their religious function is often a different from the one in Lutheranism. Beyond such interdenominational differences, there are also interesting continuities and connections which the contributors of the volume analyze. For example, there is a certain continuity between 16th century Lutheran funeral sermons and the late medieval tradition of ars moriendi.The volume contains papers presented at the Second RefoRC Conference in Oslo in 2012, and is characterized by a multiconfessional and multidisciplinary approach, with contributions from Church History, Art History, Archaeology, History of Literature and Cultural History. Nachdem er die Entstehungsgeschichte der christlichen Gemeinde in Jerusalem, die Ausbreitung der Kirche über Jerusalem hinaus, die Berufung (Bekehrung) des Paulus sowie den Beginn der Heidenmisson dargestellt hat (dies alles wird ausführlich dargestellt in Roland Gebauers erstem Teilband seines Kommentars zur Apostelgeschichte), stellt Lukas nun im Einzelnen die Geschichte der Heidenmission dar, die schließlich im Zeugnis des Paulus vor den Juden in Rom einen Höhepunkt und ersten Abschluss findet. Gebauer behandelt ausführlich die schwierige Frage: Wie kam es zum Bruch zwischen der entstehenden christlichen Kirche und dem Judentum Welche Rolle - es ist die Hauptrolle - spielt dabei Paulus als der von Gott bzw. von Jesus erwählte und bevollmächtigte Bote des Evangeliums Auch wenn Israel sich zunehmend dem Evangelium von Jesus Christius versagt - Gott kommt in jedem Fall zu seinem Ziel: mit Israel und den Heidenvölkern. Die Verkündigung des Evangeliums in Rom beschreibt das vorläufige Ziel Gottes, aber damit ist Gottes Geschichte mit seiner Welt noch nicht abgeschlossen, sondern geht weiter, denn sie ist eine universal gültige Heils-Geschichte. Für Theologen wichtig und für Nichttheologen verständlich kommentiert Roland Gebauer die Apostelgeschichte des Lukas. Mit guten Argumenten widerlegt er die These, die in der theologischen Wissenschaft lange galt: 'Haut den Lukas!' Dabei kommt Gebauer oftmals zu historischen Urteilen, die mit wohlbegründeten historischen Argumenten die lukanische Darstellung ins Recht setzt und übertriebene historische Kritik an der Apostelgeschichte ins Unrecht.

The book aims to close a gap in research, where cultural phenomena are often investigated on a national level, leaving aside the methodological consideration of transnational interconnections. The argumentation is based on a concept of hybrid culture that criticises the constructedness of the concept of cultural spaces as self-contained national contexts of tradition and focuses on the changes of cultural styles, forms and tradition in the process of migration and cultural contact instead. An empirical basis, created by examining the transfer channel, international dissemination and reception, serves as a starting point for the analysis of the mutual influence and entanglement of the cultural history of the examined cities. The transnational research perspective of this book is part of the newer urbanization research and aims to contribute to the historical analysis of European urban culture.
