Vor allem Salafisten, die in letzter Zeit immer wieder für Schlagzeilen gesorgt und den öffentlichen Diskurs bestimmt haben, propagieren dieses Weltbild besonders offensiv. Mit modernen Kommunikationsmitteln, wie den sozialen Netzwerken im Internet (web 2.0), erreichen sie dabei vor allem junge Menschen. Muslime sollen zum "wahren Glauben" geführt werden, Nichtmuslime für ihre Islamsicht gewonnen werden. Die dahinterstehende extremistische Ideologie ist oft nicht auf den ersten Blick erkennbar.
