Hardcover. Condizione: Very good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Printing [Stated]. ix, [1], 246 pages. Notes. Selected Bibliography on Police. Index. The dust jacket has some wear, soiling, and a tear at the top front near the front edge. Jerome Herbert Skolnick (March 21, 1931 February 22, 2024) was a professor at Yale…University, University of California, Berkeley, New York University and a former president of the American Society of Criminology. He joined the University of California, Berkeley in 1962. Skolnick had a Ph.D. in sociology from Yale University. David H. Bayley (March 26, 1933 May 10, 2020) was an American political scientist who taught at the University of Denver and the State University of New York at Albany. He was dean of SUNY Albany's School of Criminal Justice from 1995 to 2004 and was Distinguished Professor Emeritus. He authored 18 books, and he was a "policing research pioneer." Bayley was described in 2015 as "the world's preeminent scholar of international policing studies." This work looks at recent innovations in the police departments and evaluates the effectiveness of police-community cooperation, command decentralization, and increased foot patrols. "The demand for public order and safety continues while mistrust of police can run high, particularly in inner-city communities. Cities - the asphalt roots of America - have seen considerable change since the 1960s. Many leading cities now have black, hispanic, and/or women chief executives. But has policing been affected? Have new visions and strategies arisen in response to the twin imperatives of public safety and public trust?" The cities, across America were Santa Ana, Oakland, Denver, Detroit, Houston and Newark, N.J. Arlene Skolnick (Author photographs) (illustratore).
