Tulurialik draws inspiration for her art from the traditional ways of her Inuit culture, filling her compositions with extremely imaginative depictions of Arctic animals, Inuit in traditional dress, women with facial tatoos, shamans and spirits, fantastic birds and fish, and transformational images. Front end page has crease along side edge, otherwise very clean and well bound. Born in 1934 in the Kazan River area west of Husdon Bay, Ruth Annaqtuusi Tulurialik lived in Baker Lake, NWT. She produced a large body of colourful drawings that are among the most important accomplishments of contemporary Inuit art. In 1983 Annaqtuusi asked David Pelly to help her make a book that would present, in both drawings and words, her recollections of the customs, incidents, beliefs, and stories of her people. She wanted qablunat (white men), and her own children, to know more about the old ways.
