This concise and comprehensive legal code includes rules regulating the sale and exploitation of state-owned forest resources. Drawing on laws and regulations in force for over a century prior, the code covers a wide range of topics including the demarcation and boundary marking of forests, the adjudication of sales, the conduct of logging operations, and the prevention of waste and fraud. Of particular interest, and insight are the provisions for resolving disputes between competing interests, from local rights of use and tenant farmers to the privileges of the nobility and the prerogatives of the state. The insights contained in this book are essential reading for scholars of French history and legal scholars interested in the development of environmental law.
