The author contrasts the Protestant belief in Scripture alone with the Catholic view that tradition is also authoritative. The author traces the history of this issue from the early Church to the time of the Protestant Reformation and beyond, arguing that tradition has always been a source of error and corruption. The author concludes that Scripture alone is sufficient and reliable as a source of Christian doctrine and practice and that tradition is unnecessary and unreliable.
