This book explores the final moments of the historic Constitution and national identity of Provence, represented by the life of Pascalis, a key political figure in late 18th-century France. The author examines the unique self-governing institutions and constitutional rights that set Provence apart from other regions, and the factors that led to their demise. The book delves into the political climate of the time, the struggle between royal authority and local autonomy, and the rise of new ideas fueled by the Enlightenment. The author analyzes Pascalis's staunch defense of Provençal liberties, his role in the Assembly of the Three Orders, and the ultimately tragic outcome of his efforts to preserve his homeland's independence. Through Pascalis's story, this book offers valuable insights into the complex dynamics of power, identity, and the enduring legacy of regional autonomy within a nation.
