This book examines the various components that make up the light of the night sky, which is traditionally separated into three primary sources: starlight, the zodiacal light, and airglow. The author provides a detailed look at the separation of these three components and how each can be individually measured and analyzed. The data presented in this book is based on a year's worth of systematic observations made with standardized zenith photometers at two different locations. Through a series of approximations the author effectively separates starlight, zodiacal light, and the airglow continuum. By making use of previous star count integrations, the author is also able to present a revised integrated starlight intensity map for the Milky Way. The study concludes with a particularly in-depth discussion on the galactic light, a component of the night sky that is still not fully understood.
