The author provides an account of the dissemination of the prose 'Wigalois' during the Renaissance and the Early Modern Period, as well as of its influence on later adaptations and literary forms. The literary history of the 'Wigalois' is placed within the broader context of the reception of medieval literature and the development of German prose in the pre-Reformation era. The author argues that the process of adapting medieval verse epics into prose form had a profound impact on the dissemination and reception of these works. The text includes an overview of the state of research and a discussion of the history and cultural significance of the reception of medieval 'Wigalois', offering fresh perspectives on the relationship between medieval and early modern German literature.
