Stated first edition, no number line (1st printing). Dust jacket has very faint edgewear. Book is fine. Rideau was known as 'the most rehabilitated prisoner in America'. Convicted of murder in 1961, he served 12 years on Death Row during which he educated himself, before his sentence was commuted to life in prison. In the general prison population he served as editor of the prison newspaper. Under his leadership, the magazine won the George Polk Award and Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award. He was retried a total of three times; in the end, the Supreme Court overturned his conviction; the new jury convicted him of manslaughter; he was sentenced to 21 years and was released, as he had served 44 years. After his release, he wrote this Dayton Literary Peace Prize-winning account. His is also the author of "Life Sentences : Rage and Survival Behind Bars" and co-director of the documentary '"The Farm: Angola, USA". Rare signed. Where possible, all books come with dust jacket in a clear protective plastic sleeve, sealed in a ziplock bag, wrapped in bubble wrap, shipped in a box. Signed by Author(s).
