This book, an extensive compilation and digest of road and election laws in effect in Pennsylvania, provides an introduction to the subject for public officials, attorneys, and the general citizenry of the Commonwealth. The author has organized and clarified a broad array of legal information relevant to road management and the administration of elections. The first section of the book outlines the process for establishing new roads, from the initial petition to the final assessment of damages to property owners. The second section describes the responsibilities of township supervisors in maintaining and repairing existing roads. The third section covers the collection of road taxes, including the duties of tax collectors and the process for selling unseated lands for unpaid taxes. The fourth section provides a framework for resolving disputes over road-related matters, including the appointment of viewers and the assessment of damages. The fifth and final section of the book deals with election law. It outlines the process for electing township supervisors and the procedures for settling their accounts. The author also provides a detailed overview of the process for assessing and collecting property taxes to fund road maintenance and repairs.
