The experiments demonstrate that when learners are offered motivated, meaning-based explanations for these structures - showing, for instance, how the spatial logic underlying prepositions extends into their more abstract uses - comprehension and retention improve measurably. A thorough review of existing research in the field contextualises these findings, and a closing chapter on future directions includes an innovative analysis of English conditionals. Diagrams and sample exercises are provided throughout. The book occupies a useful middle ground between theoretical exposition and classroom application, making it relevant both to applied linguists exploring cognitive approaches and to practising teachers looking for alternatives to the traditional grammar rulebook.
