Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book consists of a series of letters written by Pliny the Younger, a prominent Roman lawyer and public figure, to various friends and acquaintances. The letters provide a rich tapestry of insight into the life and times of Pliny, as well as a valuable historical document of the Roman Empire in the late first and early second centuries AD. Pliny's letters cover a wide range of topics, including political affairs, social customs, and personal anecdotes. He discusses the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which destroyed the city of Pompeii, and gives a detailed description of his uncle's death in the disaster. He also provides insights into the workings of the Roman legal system, and offers his thoughts on a variety of philosophical and ethical issues. One of the most striking things about Pliny's letters is their charm and wit. He was a gifted writer, and his letters are often full of humor and irony. He also had a keen eye for detail, and his descriptions of people and places are vivid and memorable. This book is an excellent introduction to Pliny the Younger and his work. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in Roman history, literature, or culture, and it offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and mind of one of the most remarkable men of his time.
