The first title in the now long-running Cambridge Monographs on Mathematical Physics series and called "a masterpiece" on publication (Bryce Dewitt), the book has gone through numerous editions, including one to honor its 50th anniversary in 2023. This copy comes from the collection of physicist Freydoon Mansouri (1936-2003), whose work on string theory was foundational to that field and who later helped formulate the MacDowell-Mansouri action, used to derive Einstein's field equations of general relativity. A classic and hugely influential text with significant provenance linking two important physicists. 8.75'' x 5.75''. Original full blue cloth with spine titles stamped in silver. In original price-clipped mustard yellow printed jacket. [xii], 392 pages. Ownership stamps of noted physicist Freydoon Mansouri to top-, fore-, and bottom edges, as well as title page. Jacket spine mildly sunned, minor edgwear, a few small closed tears with tape repairs to verso. Overall, clean and sound. Near fine in a very good plus jacket.
