Hardcover. Condizione: VG+. Condizione sovraccoperta: VG+. 2nd. It has been claimed that Richard Pearse, a farmer in South Canterbury, NZ, actually flew before the Wright Bros in the US. This has not been confirmed by records, pictures or eye-witnesses. A self- taught engineering genius who built engines for his "flying machines", Pearse was reclusive and made no positive claim to being "the first" and continued his inventive ways almost until his death in 1953. Controversey has surrounded his "flights" and whether,in fact, he was actually able to control his "aircraft." Nevertheless, the story of this remarkable man is important, as Pearse was an undoubted aviation pioneer and it is told with objectivity and based on intensive research. First published in 1973, this second edition in 1974. 251 pages including six appendices, bibliography, index, 27 b/w illustrations, mainly photos with, two artist's impressions, seven diagrams, e/paper maps. Blue hard covers with gilt spine title,VG+ with hint wear lower corners/spine base, internally NF, no inscriptions. Wrap-round colour art DJ is VG+. Photos, drawings, Diagrams, Maps (illustratore).…
