The story is told, unlike most other accounts, from the perspective of the British merchantmen held prisoner onboard. The boarding and rescue of the prisoners in a Norwegian port by the destroyer HMS Cossack is described in some detail as well as the consequences, both during and after the war, of the violation of Norway's neutrality.
