About the Author & Illustrator: Jayne Fisher Jayne Fisher holds a special place in publishing history as the youngest author ever to write for Ladybird Books. She penned and illustrated the Garden Gang series starting at just nine years old, drawing inspiration from her own little garden at home. Using bold, colourful felt-tipped pens, she created a cast of endearing anthropomorphic fruit and vegetable characters who live human-like lives full of friendship, music, mischief, and gentle life lessons. The Garden Gang (originally Series 413, reissued as Series 793) was hugely popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s, selling millions of copies. Titles like this one capture a joyful, imaginative era of British children's literature. Jayne's work has inspired generations of young readers and aspiring creators. Her sister has confirmed in recent years that Jayne is doing very well as an adult, continuing as a talented writer and artist. Edition & Printing: First edition / early printing, published 1980 (copyright © LADYBIRD BOOKS LTD MCMLXXX). This is from the original run of the Garden Gang Series 793 reissue. Ladybird Books from this period typically retain the first publication year on the title/copyright page across early reprints, with no explicit "second printing" or number line. The presence of the original 75p price on the rear cover, the full back-list of titles, and the classic pictorial boards with no later revisions indicate an early 1980s printing (likely first or second impression). A desirable early copy of this popular title. This specific volume pairs the graceful Grace Grape (who organises a noisy but harmonious Garden Gang orchestra, complete with flute, violins, and more) with the curious Robert Raspberry, whose inquisitive nature leads him into trouble (stepping on grass, zoo antics, fishing despite signs) before he learns sensibility. Features full-page illustrations, character galleries, and the classic Ladybird style that collectors adore. Includes endpapers and back-list of other Garden Gang titles. Nostalgic 1980s Ladybird collectible Written/illustrated by a child prodigy Charming, vibrant artwork that still appeals today Scarce in this condition Ideal for Ladybird collectors, 1970s/80s childhood nostalgia, or as a gift for young readers. A wonderful addition to any children's book collection. Jayne Fisher (illustratore).…
