Hardback. Condizione: Good. Step right up to the most riveting slice of philatelic lore you?ll ever stumble upon! "The Observers Book Of Postage Stamps" by the illustrious Anthony SB New is not merely a book?it?s an invitation to a world where tiny bits of paper hold the power of nations, love letters, and possibly even your long-lost great-aunt?s questionable sense of humour. Published in the illustrious year of 1977 by Frederick Warne, this volume is a treasure trove for enthusiasts and casual collectors alike, offering insights that could make even the most fervent stamp-wielders do a double take. With its expert commentary and charming illustrations?because who doesn?t want to gaze lovingly at a close-up of a two-penny blue??this book is the perfect companion for rainy days or when you simply can?t bear to interact with actual humans. But don?t let the title mislead you into thinking this is merely a catalogue of colourful rectangles. Anthony SB New has meticulously curated a cornucopia of information that delves beyond the mundane. Prepare to be amazed as you uncover the intricate stories behind stamps that have crossed oceans, survived fires, and probably been chewed on by a dog or two. This isn?t just about collecting; it?s about appreciating a historical tapestry woven from the fabric of human communication. Learn about the origins of the world?s first stamp, which may or may not have been a family heirloom Discover the secrets of the airmail stamp, perfect for sending love letters to your pen pal in Canada Explore the wild world of thematic collecting, from cats to chocolate Understand why some stamps are worth a fortune, while others are simply worth less than your last takeaway Engage with the fascinating habits of fellow collectors who may hide their obsession behind an unassuming façade As you flip through the pages, you?ll find yourself pondering the philosophical implications of postage. What does it mean to send a letter? Is a stamp merely a prelude to awkward small talk, or does it carry the weight of connection? You may find yourself in a deep existential spiral, perhaps contemplating the elusive nature of human interaction or simply wondering why you can?t find a decent curry in your neighbourhood. This book will not solve your life?s problems, but it may distract you from them, which is half the battle, isn?t it? Condition: Good?though much like the stamps it celebrates, this book has seen its fair share of history. Expect the occasional crease or slightly yellowed page, but that merely adds to its charm. After all, isn?t a bit of wear and tear just the universe?s way of saying you?ve been loved? In the grand tapestry of second-hand books, "The Observers Book Of Postage Stamps" stands out like a particularly vibrant stamp?interesting, eccentric, and utterly unique. Grab it from Crappy Old Books, where we believe every book has a story, even if that story is just how it ended up in a dusty corner of a second-hand shop. So, whether you?re a seasoned collector or just someone looking to spice up your coffee table with a conversation starter, this book is a delightful oddity waiting to be reclaimed from the depths of obscurity. Because let?s face it, who wouldn?t want to impress their friends with a solid knowledge base about the evolution of postage stamps? You never know when you might need to break the ice with a particularly riveting tale about the 1856 British Guiana one-cent magenta.…
