Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 2nd Edition. 369 pages, with index. 1978 printing of 1975 second edition of work first issued 1958. A book of the Soviet period, it looks at the pre-history of "Marxist-Leninist" notions of art, starting with the "radical democrat" writers of the 19th century. Ends with consideration of Soviet-era dissidents - Pasternak, Solzhenitsyn, Sinyavsky. Trade paperback, wraps curled at corners and along fore-edge, shelf wear and small (1/4") split at back of spine at crown, dust soil to top edge, minor soil or scratches to fore-edge and back cover, a bit of foxing to end papers. Marginalia by former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff on approximately 15 pages in the Pasternak chapter, other pages unmarked.
