Text in English and Chinese. 48pp.Artist statement:For the last several years I have been engaged in a search for a way to integrate a contemporary spiritwith my personal sense of aesthetics and love of traditional Chinese ink painting. The Distant Echoes Series is the direct result of these years of effort and exploration.I have a deep admiration for traditional Chinese ink painting: it has an inner purity and luminosity thatshines like hidden gold. It moves and stimulates me. I am also attracted by the boldness and unexpectednessof contemporary art. In my work, I have tried to incorporate qualities of both. In addition, I am fascinated bythe power of the Neolithic pottery created by craftsmen 5,000 years ago, and have used it as an inspiration inmy art.I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to Hanart T Z Gallery for organising this first. solo exhibition of my Distant Echoes works in Hong Kong, and to my many friends in Hong Kong for theirwarm enthusiasm and support. Finally, I would like to thank the dedicated craftsmen of the Ru Gao SilkTapestry Workshop in Jiangsu Province who wove the Distant Echoes tapestries for me.DengLin23 March, 1993Beijing.
