Hard Back. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Poor. Craig, Jim - Design (illustratore). Second Printing. 224 Pages Indexed. Blue cloth with gold spine lettering. First published by Watson-Guptill Publications in 1975. This a second printing of the 1975 release. Very small nick at top of spine. Dust jacket has numerous tears around the edges and small pieces are missing and price is clipped. However the flap text is all present. Illustrated with 175 black and white illustrations and 48 full color plates. The Golden Age of American poster design was brief but brilliant, calling on the talents of the best-known artists of the day. The heyday of the poster was the last decade of the 19th century, when the poster came into its own as the perfect advertising medium, touting plays, periodicals, patent medicines, and a vast array of newfangled manufactured goods from bicycles to dynamite. The American poster artists and their work are brought together in this lavishly illustrated volume. Some of the pioneers of American graphic design who contributed to the American poster renaissance are Bradley, Penfield, Parrish, Leyendecker, Gibson, Sloan, Bird, Bragdon, Carqueville, Gould, Hazenplug, Mayer, Nankivell, Reed, Rhead, and Woodbury, to name just a few. During the 1890s posters proliferated in book-sellers' stalls, in theaters, and on walls from one end of the country to the other. The quality of poster design was at its peak, incorporating all the newest and most exiting new directions in art. Equally important, public appreciation of poster art developed so quickly it launched a poster-collecting spree amounting to a mania. This book offers a vivid look at this short-lived phenomenon. Contents: Introduction, European Origins, Posters in America, Styles and Artists, The Patrons, Epilog, Plates: Mass Magazines, Little Magazines, Books, Newspapers Commerce and Exhibitions, Biographies, Acknowledgments, Illustration Credits, and Bibliography.

Aggiungi al carrelloSoftcover. Condizione: Very Good. 224 pagina's. 9 x 12. 175 zwart-wit illustraties. 48 full color platen.

Aggiungi al carrellohardcover. Condizione: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.
