The Subject is of wide interest and importance, particularly in relation to the reduction of the offensiveness of raw sludge and the control of its odour and its pathogenic content. The bibliography covers the processing techniques used in stabilisation and disinfection, including a broad range of stabilisation methods from the traditional - anaerobic digestion - to aerobic lime stabilisation and composting. Specific techniques for odour elimination are of increasing importance and covered here in a separate section; while disinfection methods covered vary from pasteurisation to chemical treatments and irradiation. The material in the book has been collated from the vast, in-depth store of literature available through the Water Research Centre's online file AQUALINE as well as from earlier material. To aid reader understanding, the sections are organised alphabetically, by author and then by date; most of the items include bibliographic details and an abstract.
