Details of the bird's appearance, food, nesting, song, etc. are excluded as the Atlas is not intended as an identification manual. The Atlas also contains a discussion of the background to the project and the methods used to assemble the data. The distributions of 100 rarer species are outlined and the book ends with a checklist of birds recorded in Natal and full scientific and English indexes.
