Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. signed by Ray Negron. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condizione: Very good. Condizione sovraccoperta: very good. First Printing [Stated]. xii, [2], 268, [6] pages. Illustrations. Ray Negron Timeline. Index. Introduction by Hank Steinbrenner. DJ has slight wear and soiling. If it was not all so true, you'd think it was a fairy tale. A seventeen-year-old from Queens spray paints graffiti on Yankee Stadium and gets nabbed by George Steinbrenner himself. Contrary to his gruff public image, the Boss-driven by a compassionate inner voice-reclaims the teen at a time when the Bronx is literally burning. Thus begins the unlikeliest of baseball stories, one in which Ray Negron is transformed from street kid to batboy and beyond. Befriending many of major league baseball's greatest stars-Billy Martin, Reggie Jackson, Munson, Mantle, Catfish, A-Rod, Jeter, even Mrs. Lou Gehrig-Negron ultimately emerges as a dynamic community leader, dedicating his own life to helping the sick and rescuing generations of city kids from unfulfilled lives. Yankee Miracles is a book about the power of baseball to transform lives, about all those miracles on 161st Street we never knew were there. Ray Negron is a sport's executive with over thirty years experience in baseball who has influenced three generations of baseball players. His first job came from a chance encounter with George Steinbrenner as a youth. Ray was caught by Steinbrenner scrawling a Yankee logo on a Yankee Stadium wall and instead of punishing the erstwhile graffiti artist, Steinbrenner hired him as the Yankee bat boy and propelled him into a "dream job"; sharing the dugout with the "Bronx Zoo Yankees" of the Seventies. Despite his young age, Ray was a positive influence in the fiery clubhouse that included manager Billy Martin, superstar Reggie Jackson, the legendary Thurman Munson, and more. A standout shortstop in Springfield Gardens High School, Ray was a second round draft pick for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1975. Ray worked with the Cleveland Indians and the Texas Rangers as a team counselor, working behind the scenes to help players handle any off-field challenges before they escalated into insurmountable problems. Ray currently works with the New York Yankees as a personal consultant and is active in community affairs visiting schools and hospitals with the players. In addition, he is also Director of Community Relations for Spalding, America's oldest baseball company, where he has been instrumental in supporting baseball in underprivileged areas with equipment donations and volunteer efforts from some of baseball's biggest stars. Ray has received numerous Humanitarian awards and has been recognized for his work in the community by many organizations. Ray was inducted into the Ted Williams Hall of Fame Museum and the International Latino Sports Hall of Fame. Ray has received an award from the Department of Homeland Security for his achievements and accomplishments as an author and for being a positive role model in the community.Ray is the manager of Hank's Yanks, a youth baseball team consisting of underprivileged youths from the New York City area, Westchester and Long Island, sponsored by New York Yankees co-owner Hank Steinbrenner. Ray's book entitled Yankee Miracles is published by W.W. Norton & Company is a series of short stories.…
