Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Very good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very good. First edition. An association copy, inscribed on the title page: "A bit of history here, Drummond, of which 'Druggs' is an important part. Enjoy! Steve Roper, Allen Steck." Signed by both editors, with the inscription in Roper's hand. Uncommon signed. A book that collects writing from the first quarter-century of the annual mountaineering magazine of the Sierra Club, Ascent. Drummond Remmie contributes a 5-page essay "Druggs in the Himalaya" (in the section "A Sense of Whimsy"), which is what the inscription alludes to. The essay is about trying to procure drugs and medical supplies in Katmandu after his expedition's gear is lost and about a local manual to that effect that he discovers. Remmie was a climber of stature and became a physician with an expertise in high-altitude medicine, but he became internationally reknown as a for leading the charge for peer review standards. There are numerous tributes to him on that account (see, e.g., his obit in The Guardian). Roper and Steck founded Ascent and are both accomplished climbers and historians of the sport; they both contribute pieces to this anthology. Among the other contributors that standout to us (as nonclimbers) are Galen Rowell and Royal Robbins. With a foreword by David Roberts. Blue paper boards, turquoise cloth spine. Very good or better with a little nudging to lower spine and the lower corners bumped. In a very good jacket with minor creasing in those same areas and a one crease at the top right of the front panel. Signed.
