Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Prevalence rates of delirium range widely depending onpatient population and treatment setting. Information on rates of deliriumin community settings is limited, but in emergency and hospital settings,one-quarter or more of the patients will experience delirium. Rates can beeven higher in o…lder individuals, critical care patients, and patients whohave had major orthopedic or cardiovascular surgeries. Prevention, early detection, and optimal treatment are critical because delirium isoften unrecognized and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. For example, postsurgical delirium has been reported to have a 30-daymortality rate of up to 10%, versus 1% in postsurgical patients withoutdelirium. Additionally, delirium exacts a significant economic toll onindividuals, their families, and society because of longer hospital stays,ICU admissions, rehospitalizations, and lost wages. In the United States, direct health care costs of hospitalized older adults with delirium aresignificantly higher than hospitalized patients without delirium, even afteradjusting for demographic and clinical factors. The AmericanPsychiatric Association Practice Guideline for the Prevention andTreatment of Delirium reviews current evidence-basednonpharmacological and pharmacological interventions to prevent or treatdelirium in adults. In addition, it includes statements related toassessment and treatment planning, which are an integral part ofpatient-centered care. The guideline describes approaches to implementingrecommendations and suggestions in clinical practice. By providingup-to-date knowledge, the guideline aims to help clinicians feel moreconfident in preventing, recognizing, and treating delirium, therebyimproving the care and well-being of their patients.Evidence tables, literature search results, clinical questions, and more for this guidelinecan be found in the online appendixes. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
