The author was a disciple of Izaac Walton of ?The Complete Angler? fame and in this capacity, he sets forth rod in hand, with an imaginary companion to follow the stream from its source at Axeknoller near Beaminster, until it falls into the sea at Haven Cliff below Axmouth.
