Huber points out and explains several ironies in our system of higher education, such as: professors are hired as teachers but evaluated as scholars; University presidents train to be managers by teaching. Brings up numerous salient points including one every parent who has ever put a kid through college can relate to. Over-enrolled mandatory classes which delay graduation and keep students in school five years. The bottom line, the author maintains, is limited faculty productivity in a structure which has two competing aims -- research and teaching.
