Paper Back. Condizione: New. The sermons presented here review salvation history, with emphasis on the sin of Adam and its consequences. A section of special interest is Symeon's interpretation, original with him it seems, of the immediate aftermath of the disobedient eating of the fruit: Adam, had he repented of his disobedience and confessed his sin, could have remained in Paradise. He was cast out only after his continued recalcitrance, his blaming of Eve. Likewise with Eve, and her blaming of the serpent. One could easily extend this theme of the efficacy of sorrow for sin and repentance in St. Symeon's spirituality, even to confession and repentance as a renewal of baptism, which is itself a type of return to Paradise. A fascinating glimpse at an original exegesis within a traditional framework.
