The owner of this handbook of sorcery was Dr. Thomas Rudd, the most important scholar-magician of the early seventeenth century, and a magical successor to Dr. John Dee. This book explains how the 72 angels of the Shemhamphorash are used to evoke and safely bind demons--material that has not been made available in any previous edition. This rare volume contains a transcription of a hitherto unpublished manuscript of the Lemegeton and includes illustrations drawn from rare manuscripts held in the British Library. This is a compilation of the most complete version of the Goetia, despite the title Dr. Rudd's manuscript only makes up a large portion of the text, it actually draws from seven version of the Goetia, and four other related texts. The intro is amazing, taking up the first 100 pages, the authors explain their deduced origin of the Goetia, the books and schools of thought that were synthesized into this text, following it for nearly 800 years. The main text itself it not largely different from most modern versions of the Goetia, except it includes the names, seals and associated Psalm of the Shem ha-Mephorash Angels that are to be used in order to control the Demons, and explaining how the Circle was supposed to be drawn. A clean very presentable copy.
