Printed in Canada. First printing. From the blurb on the back cover Moonshot: The Indigenous Comics Collection Volume 1 brings together dozens of creators from all over North America to contribute comic book stories showcasing the rich heritage and identity of indigenous storytelling. From traditional stories to exciting new visions of the future, this collection presents some of the finest comic book and graphic novel work from across the continent. Edited by Hope Nicholson (Brok Windsor, Nelvana of the Northern Lights) with an introduction by Michael Sheyahshe (Dark Owl, Native Americans in Comic Books), Moonshot is an incredible collection that will amaze, intrigue, and entertain! There is a list of the incredible creators who have contributed to this book see photo. From the Foreword Moonshot is the title of this book as it is a song that I feel details the concepts of extraterrestrial and religious contact present in many native communities across North America long before colonization. A chiding of the naivety to think settlers were the sole creators of these ideas, and reminder that there is a great deal of history and culture that we are sadly unaware of. From the title page The cover image, titled Northern Crow was painted by Metis artist Stephen Gladue. The image was inspired by the Plains Cree traditional dancers observed in northern Alberta many years ago. The crow in many indigenous communities is a pathfinder with the power to speak, bringing messages of wisdom and acts as a spiritual storyteller. This piece includes several crow motif embellishments, as well as culturally significant artifacts throughout, leaving the viewer to explore the image long after the first impression. Northern Crow is part of a series that centers on traditional dancers in various states of motion, which is what gives this piece its frenetic appearance. The series as a whole represents the cycle of chaos, reflection and peace. There are biographies at the back of the book. This book is in near-fine condition. The only, very minor fault are bumped corners on the bottom of both boards. This copy is hard bound. At the time of this posting all other copies on the internet were paperback reprints. This is a beautiful copy of the very scarce first printing.
