The book is a commentary on the preface to the Rhemish Testament, a translation of the New Testament into English that was first published in 1582. The preface, written by the translators, defends the Catholic Church and its teachings against Protestant criticisms. Catholicus' book provides a detailed analysis of the preface, examining the arguments put forth by the translators and responding to Protestant objections. The author defends Catholic doctrine and practices, such as the use of Latin in the Mass and the veneration of saints, and refutes Protestant beliefs, such as the idea of sola scriptura (the belief that the Bible alone is sufficient for Christian faith and practice). The book is written from a Catholic perspective and is intended to provide a defense of the Catholic Church against Protestant attacks. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of the English Reformation and the theological debates of the era. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
