The book includes investigations into the values of stresses in an electromagnetic field in accordance with several possible hypotheses, extending the work of Maxwell, Helmholtz, Kirchhoff, and Lorberg by considering neglected factors which appear to the author to be of some importance. The author concludes that their theory yields a system of stresses consistent with a fluid medium in equilibrium.
