This book concerns the function of criticism in the present day and argues that true criticism can only be founded upon disinterestedness in the pursuit of an impartial view of the world. The author contends that the English preoccupation with the practical and the political is ultimately restrictive to the development of genuine intellectual culture. The author sees this book as a call to develop a new type of criticism in order to enable a new wave of creativity.
