The poems, dating from the Rifle Volunteer movement inspired by the threat of French invasion in the 1850s to the Boer War, use humor and wit to recount some of the lighter moments of military life and training. The author takes the reader through a snapshot of history, detailing drills, uniforms and equipment with contemporary references, providing insights into military life in Victorian Britain particularly within the legal profession. This book will appeal to readers interested in military history, particularly volunteer units, as well as those with an interest in legal history and social history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
