This book critically examines the consequences of continuing the Market Development in Food For Peace (MDFFP) program, which attempts to solve several interconnected problems, including hunger reduction, economic development and trade expansion. The author presents evidence suggesting that in its current form, the program has fallen short of its intended goals of promoting sustainable economic development and market development for US agricultural exports. The book identifies the program's overcomplexity and overabundance of sometimes competing objectives as factors impeding its ability to function effectively. Additionally, the author posits that the geopolitical landscape has shifted from the time the program was created, rendering it misaligned with the challenges and opportunities of the present day. The author suggests changes to the MDFFP program, such as increasing flexibility, to make it more adaptable to the needs of recipient countries. The book also suggests an expansion of the program's scope to include a broader array of financing options and mechanisms for delivering food assistance. The author concludes that the MDFFP program, in its current form, needs updating and amending to better meet the needs of food-insecure nations and to promote sustainable agricultural practices.
