It contextualizes the act within the broader historical struggle for Indian independence by tracing the evolution of councils in India from their inception in 1858 to the act's passage. The book further analyzes the act's key provisions, including the establishment of bicameral legislatures at the provincial level and the introduction of a system of diarchy, which divided administrative responsibilities between elected Indian ministers and British officials. Through this detailed examination, the book offers valuable insights into the complex relationship between Britain and India during this period and the challenges and opportunities that shaped India's path to independence. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
