Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book addresses the tension between religious dissent and duty to civil government, a subject of much debate in the 1700s. The author argues that Christian principles promote just government, order, and peace, and that Protestant reformers defended the rights of rulers against papal and fanatical usurpation. The author declares their adherence to lawful government, a term of communion for their society. They believe that obedience to the British government is consistent with their religious testimony, and they condemn sedition and violent change. The book provides a nuanced perspective on the relationship between religious belief and civic duty, and its arguments remain relevant in contemporary discussions on the role of religion in society.
