It examines the advantages and disadvantages of such a code, and provides some initial research on which to base a fuller examination. The author highlights the challenges posed by the international nature of seafaring work, and the need for a uniform set of standards to protect the rights and well-being of seafarers. The author also provides a historical overview of previous attempts to create international maritime codes, and discusses the potential impact of an international seafarers' code on the maritime industry, international trade, and the lives of seafarers. The insights offered will be particularly informative to anyone with an interest in international law, maritime labour, and the protection of workers' rights.
