The author draws upon biblical accounts to craft a narrative exploring the themes of pride and ruin: the hubristic King Belshazzar celebrates his reign, but the prophet Danielâs words of judgement loom over Babylon. Simultaneously, a captive Jewish family face oppression and fear, yet find solace in their faith and belief in a coming salvation. This conflict between worldly authority and heavenly transcendence forms the core of the book as it explores the consequences and importance of the choices made amidst burgeoning evil, showcasing a world on the brink of a new era marked by the rise of the Persian Empire and the promise of return for the Jewish people.
