Though 'Apuleian' can refer to coarse, humorous stories, these tales span a diverse range of topics from the humorous to the horrific. The author focuses on themes of love, magic, witchcraft and metamorphosis. Some of these may be familiar to readers, such as "Cupid and Psyche," which the author retells in his own distinctive style. As one of the first great Latin novelists, Apuleius's stories offer insights into the history of storytelling and the development of literary techniques still used today. The book provides an enjoyable and varied tour through the tales and themes that were popular in ancient times.
