Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a study of the early Latin translations of the New Testament, with a particular focus on the Codex Sangallensis. Latin bibles are important for understanding the history of the New Testament, and the author shows how the Codex Sangallensis presents a non-vulgate, African-…influenced version of the Latin text. The author shows that this text is not a true Vulgate text and that it contains an older Latin element that ought not to be neglected. The book demonstrates that an "African" influence was a marked feature in some of the earliest Latin copies of the NT and that the early versions of the Latin text go back into a common origin, which we designate as the Great Western Bilingual; a recension which was freely colored both in Latin and in Greek by the Opinions prevailing in the second century. The study of these early texts offers a unique window into the genesis of the Western readings in the New Testament. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
