This book represents a series of transcripts of vital records kept by the Church of England for the parish of Chesham, a town in Buckinghamshire, UK, from 1538 to 1636. Parish records represent the earliest form of civil registration in England, with the first being introduced in 1538. Before this point, most records of births, marriages, and deaths were kept by religious institutions, and the introduction of public record-keeping was a significant shift in the recording of important life events. This book transcribes the earliest of these records, from a period that saw significant social and religious upheaval in the UK. Along with its value as a local parish record, the text offers a unique window into the lives of ordinary English people during a time of great and rapid change. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
