It does this by working through a number of significant episodes in Irish history, where the Fianna played heroic and integral roles. The Fianna were a warrior band led by Fionn mac Cumhail, who swore to defend Ireland. This book goes through three of their greatest stories; the first describing how Finn acquired his role, the second, involving an encounter with a menacing fire threat to the Tara stronghold, and the third and final one involving tensions between the Fianna and Irelandâs bards. The authorâs work in this book suggests the mythological tales of the Fianna are indicative of uniquely Irish values.
