Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the life and times of Samuel H. Stearns, a minister who was beset by poor health throughout his life but dedicated himself to the theological profession. It follows Stearns from his early youth in Bedford, Massachusetts, through his time as an instructor at Phillips Academy and his graduation from Harvard in 1823. His graduation was followed by a period as an instructor at Phillips Academy and an unsuccessful attempt at manual labor in an effort to regain his health. The narrative includes rich primary source material, including excerpts from some of Stearns's own letters and writings. The book posits that Stearns's theological writings and sermons are marked by their elevated morality and piety, as well as their thoroughness in the first principles of classical knowledge. Particular attention is paid to Stearns's belief in Christian education and his efforts to regain and confirm his health through manual labor. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
